Behind Every Program, There's a Volunteer!
Over the past decade, St. Louis Marathi Mandal has grown in scale and spirit. Membership has expanded, programs have become more ambitious, and the experiences we bring to the community are now comparable to professional productions (whether it’s festivals, cultural programs, or even large-scale theater events).
What often goes unseen is how this all comes together. Every event is organized not by paid staff, but by volunteers: members of the Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, and so many others including our youth, who balance work/school, family, and life commitments, and still dedicate countless hours to serving the community.
It’s easy to expect seamless processes and instant responses (whether it’s ticketing, seating, logistics, operations or communication, you name it), but it’s worth remembering these are neighbors and friends stepping up as volunteers, not employees.

The very modest annual membership fee supports our 'bare essentials' and keeps the Mandal running. Think of that as your 'home budget of basic necessities' like utilities and rent. To keep-the-lights-on, so to speak. Everything beyond that, the cultural richness, the professional-quality shows, the sense of togetherness, is made possible because volunteers give their time, and because community members step forward with sponsorships, donations, and most importantly encouragement.
👉 So here’s a simple request: next time you see something not working, missing or some gap in communication, understand it is not intentional, have some patience and choose to be kind before you fire off your questions in larger group settings. The volunteer may have a sick child at home, traveling for work or just having a rough day at office. Please know that they are doing their best to serve you better - and yes, for free!
And when you see opportunities to sponsor or donate or support, please step up. That gratitude and support go a long way in sustaining this shared cultural home.

Very well said Mandar.....
Very well said Mandar.
I think everyone at least once should volunteer to be on the committee to really appreciate the work that goes behind a successful event.
'Man ki baat' .... very well expressed in simple yet strong words. Thank you for sharing it with us Mandar.
Very well written, Mandar.
This is so true! Being kind is more important than proving yourself right. Thank you for recognizing the countless hours volunteers put in for every program.
On this note, I extend my gratitude to all STLMM volunteers for all they do for us !!🙏🙏🙏
Mandar, thanks a lot for writing this !!
To thrive as a community, we need volunteers and also appreciation/support for their work 👍👍
